Privacy, in plain words

Loopily is made for kids, so we collect as little as we can and we tell you exactly where it goes. This page is written for parents.

The short version

  • No ads, no analytics, no tracking. We never sell or share data for marketing.
  • Kids can play without any account. Their profile stays on your device.
  • Your kid's name is not sent to our voice provider. Lo only says a name when that exact sentence was recorded before; otherwise Lo says the same sentence without it.
  • A parent account is optional. It only needs an email and lets you save progress.
  • You can delete everything. Write to us at helmut.fritz.v@gmail.com.

Playing without an account

When you set up Loopily, you create a profile for each kid: a name or nickname, an avatar, and the languages they speak. Without a parent account, these profiles are saved only in your browser on this device. We don't store them. The only time the name leaves the device is a quick check for recorded greetings, explained in the next section.

We suggest a nickname rather than a full name. Loopily never asks for a kid's age, birthday, photo, location, or email.

Lo's voice and your kid's name

Lo speaks words, letters, and short sentences out loud. That audio is created by ElevenLabs, a text-to-speech service. To make it, we send them the text Lo should say.

That text is the same for everyone, like "perro", "Buchstabe", or "What should we play?". Your kid's name or nickname is not sent to ElevenLabs.

Lo can still greet some kids by name, like "What should we play, Mia?", but only when that exact sentence with that name was already recorded. To check, Loopily asks our own server whether such a recording exists; the name is only used for that check and not stored. If there's no recording, Lo says the sentence without the name, and the text on screen matches what Lo says.

So Lo doesn't have to create the same sentence twice, we keep each finished audio clip and its text in our database. Before this change, sentences with a name were created for the kids using Loopily at the time, and those recordings stay stored until you ask us to delete them.

If Lo's voice isn't available, Loopily falls back to your device's built-in voice. Depending on your browser, that voice may be provided by your browser or operating system maker (for example Apple, Google, or Microsoft).

The optional parent account

You can sign in with your email to save progress. We send you a one-time code; there is no password. Before we send it, you confirm that you're the child's parent or guardian and agree to this notice. Nothing about your child is saved to your account until you do. When you're signed in, we store:

  • Your email address.
  • When you confirmed you're the child's parent or guardian.
  • Each kid profile's name or nickname, avatar, and languages, so they come back on any device you sign in on.
  • What each child has finished: which letters, which word categories (matched and traced), how many number sessions, and which of Lo's tricks they've unlocked. Only that it's done, never how well they traced or how long it took.
  • Progress per language: how many answers were right, which words were practiced, and when.
  • Play sessions: which activity, which languages, and start and end times.

Only you can see this data. We use it to show you progress, nothing else. A cookie keeps you signed in; it's the only cookie Loopily uses.

What we don't do

  • No advertising, and no ad or analytics trackers of any kind.
  • No selling, renting, or sharing data for marketing.
  • No social features: kids can't talk to other people in Loopily.
  • No behavioral profiling of kids.

Who helps us run Loopily

These services process data on our behalf, only to make Loopily work:

  • Supabase: our database and sign-in. Stores parent accounts, saved progress, and cached audio clips.
  • ElevenLabs: creates Lo's voice from the text Lo says. Kids' names are not sent.
  • Vercel: hosts the website. Like any web host, it keeps short-lived technical logs such as IP addresses.

Deleting your data

  • On this device: delete a kid's profile in Settings, or clear your browser's site data for Loopily.
  • Signed in: deleting a kid's profile also deletes that kid's saved progress from your account.
  • To delete your whole account, or any stored audio clips that contain your kid's name, email us at helmut.fritz.v@gmail.com. We'll confirm once it's done.

Your rights

You can ask us what data we hold about you or your kid, and ask us to correct or delete it. You can also withdraw consent at any time. If you're in the EU, you have the right to complain to a data protection authority; ours is the Berlin Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information.

Who is responsible

Loopily is made by Helmut Fritz in Berlin, Germany. For anything about privacy, write to helmut.fritz.v@gmail.com.

If we change how we handle data, we'll update this page and the date at the top. If a change is significant, signed-in parents will hear from us by email first.
